Guidance for the under-21 benefit cut has been published, with the policy set came into effect from 1st April

The government released the guidelines online, announcing an implementation date of 1 April for the controversial cut.

It will mean under-21s on Universal Credit will no longer be eligible for housing support. Current claimants will not be affected.

The guidelines detail a series of exemptions, including young people for whom it is inappropriate to live with their parents or have responsibility for children. Young people will be required to prove these circumstances in order to qualify for the exemption.
