Housing Minister issues warning to B&B councils
The Housing Minister has written to 20 local authorities warning them to improve the way they deal with homeless people, including extended B&B use beyond six weeks. CLG figures show a 37% increase in B&B use in the last quarter of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010.

Housing Minister announces £1.8m to tackle ‘beds in sheds’
Housing Minister Grant Shapps has pledged £1.8 million to tackle the practice of landlords renting out cramped and unsafe properties. The funding will enable nine local authorities to tackle the problem of landlords renting out ‘beds in sheds’ at extortionate rents, often to migrants who are in the country illegally.
