Brighton’s Future, a new campaign for affordable housing, was born out of a desire to find solutions to Brighton’s housing crisis.
According to Inside Housing:
Two of my friends finished university a couple of years ago and had difficulty finding decent places to rent. After dealing with tricky landlords and substandard conditions, they decided they wanted to actively do something to address Brighton’s housing crisis, and so the three of us teamed up with two others to form Brighton’s Future.
The bottom line is that there is a huge demand for housing and an extremely limited supply and, though MPs and councillors tell us they understand we’re having a housing shortage, not enough is being done to solve it. We need to look upon the land we have available to us with fresh eyes and start making bold and difficult decisions to deliver the houses we so desperately need.
The whole reason for this campaign is that it is my generation and those that follow who are going to be most affected by the choices we make now. At the moment our goal is to gain the attention of MPs, councillors and residents and show them that we mean business. These aren’t just the thoughts of a select few, this is a real issue affecting thousands of people. We need as many signatures as we can get on our petition so that we can bring it forward to the council and get some answers as to how we can tackle Brighton’s housing crisis.
