Census reveals surge in private renting

Statistics from the 2011 census, published this week by the Office for National Statistics, revealed an 88% rise across England and Wales in the number of private rented sector tenants since 2001, to 3.6 million people. The number of people renting from their local authority fell 23% to 2.2 million over the same period.
