England’s Core Cities group has joined forces with London Councils to call for more devolution to encourage economic growth.
The local government groups have also joined up with London mayor, Boris Johnson, to call for the devolution of property tax revenue streams, including council tax, stamp duty and land tax.
‘Greater devolution to England’s cities and localities offers new hope for securing the sort of economic growth our country so critically needs,’ said London Councils chair, mayor Jules Pipe.
‘London’s boroughs need to be at the heart of shaping the capital’s economic and fiscal future, as well s working together to reform services in a way that reflects the reality of severely reduced public finances.’
