Some councils in London are looking at building Starter Homes outside of their own boroughs.

A number of local authorities operating in high-value areas are exploring the idea of building Starter Homes themselves outside of their own borough boundary to generate cash and ensure properties are more affordable for residents on average salaries.

A Starter Home in London could cost as much as £450,000 after the 20% discount.

Ealing Council believes building Starter Homes through its housing company could make it easier to achieve the two-for-one replacement of affordable homes sold to fund the Right to Buy extension, as required in London under the Housing and Planning Bill. This is because the council would receive an upfront capital receipt.
