At least 42 councils across the country are set to increase council tax despite warnings from Government to freeze bills, according to a survey in LG News.

The survey, conducted by the Telegraph, found that some councils are planning to reject the grant to freeze council tax and will instead increase bills by up to £24 a year. The survey also found that more than half of those planning a rise are conservative-led.

The survey shows that conservative-led North Yorkshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire county councils all plan to increase council tax following a freeze for the past three years.

David Cameron’s local authority, Oxfordshire, is also planning to increase council tax for the second year running.
