End of lifetime tenancies – applies to new tenants LA only

The Government has tabled new clauses to the Housing and Planning Bill which will prevent local authority landlords from granting new lifetime secure tenancies.

All new secure tenancies will be for a fixed term of between 2 and 5 years.

The legislation will affect local authority landlords but has no direct impact on housing associations.
