A housing association has commissioned what it is claiming are the first ‘instant’ homes in the UK.
Twin Valley Homes has ordered the four properties from Easybase Home, which will build them in a factory in Blackburn before they are assembled on a site in the town.
The homes come in just two pieces – a ground floor and combined upper floor and roof – which are slotted together on site in a day. The pieces come with kitchens and bathrooms fitted, as well as double glazing, energy efficient boilers, and insulation.
The homes take 16 weeks to build in the factory, so should be available to rent by the end of the summer.
Ian Clark, managing director (west) for Twin Valley Homes’ parent Together Housing Group, said: ‘With our region, and the wider UK, facing a shortage of modern, family homes, innovative construction methods such as these can help many more people gain access to their ideal properties.
‘Not only is the turnaround time for these houses remarkable, they are of extremely high quality – offering style, comfort and low utility bills. We’re expecting lots of interest from other housing associations and local authorities around the country, keen to see this unique project for themselves.’
Easbybase Home was set up seven years ago building modular conservatories and garden buildings, but the Twin Valley contract is its first housing project.
