A housing association which left more than 1,000 homes without a gas safety certificate is being investigated by the health and safety watchdog.

Luminus Group, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire,  was downraded to G3 in March and placed on HCAs watch list

An audit identified more than 1,000 properties which did not have a valid gas safety certificate for at least some part of the previous two years.

“Inadequate policies and systems had caused failure to schedule and book inspections in a timely manner… The failure was not reported to the regulator,” the HCA report said.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), is responsible for regulating health and safety standards and are investigating the failings.

For a landlord, not having an in-date gas safety check is a breach of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. A custodial sentence or a heavy fine are possible sentences.
