Wreckenton Library in Gateshead could be managed by Gateshead Housing Company as part of cost-saving proposals under consideration by the council.
In the wake of anti-cuts protests, Gateshead Council announced that all libraries across the borough will stay open, but the local authority says central government funding cuts mean the services will have to be adjusted.
The local authority has dipped into its reserves to afford more time for the future of facilities to be discussed.
Dunston Activity Centre, Gateshead Indoor Bowling Centre and Whickham Thorns Outdoor Activity Centre will shut in October if a community group or business doesn’t come forward to take them over.
It is proposed that Wreckenton Library will move to Wreckenton Hub and the service will be run by Gateshead Housing Company, which manages nearly 20,000 homes in the borough and employs over 300 people.
The full council meeting tomorrow will also vote on whether to increase council tax by 1.95 per cent to ease the funding pressures
