Social landlords tha at risk of breaching care standards will face investigation by the Care Quality Commission.

The care regulator announced a ‘themed inspection programme of home care services’ following a damning report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission on the treatment of older people living in their own homes.

An inquiry into providers of home-based care by the EHRC, published on Wednesday, found examples of physical and financial abuse, disregarding privacy and dignity, and failing to supporteating or drinking.

From April, the CQC programme will assess around 250 providers of domiciliary care services.
