The government used a parliamentary mechanism AGAIN to prevent further attempts by the House of Lords to change the Welfare Reform Bill.
This week, Lord Best’s latest amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill was defeated  when the bill returned to the House of Commons. The amendment sought to exempt the following groups from the benefit cut if no suitable alternative accommodation was available:
  • occupants in receipt of disability living allowance, personal independence payment, or attendance allowances
  • war widow and widowers
  • households that routinely provide foster care placements
