The Government is preparing new statutory guidance on overview and scrutiny in local government. This will be published in December 2018.
The guidance will need to reflect the needs of local councils, and local communities. Government is keen to hear and understand the views of professionals, councillors and others with an interest in the issues involved.
The Centre for Public Scrutiny has been commissioned to draft parts of the guidance, and is also assisting Government by drawing in views about what the guidance should cover.
A short explainer is available on the CfPS website
We would also like to hear about your interesting and innovative scrutiny practice, both to contribute to this guidance and also to include in our forthcoming “Scrutiny Frontiers” publication.
