In a written statement to Parliament, the Government has confirmed that people living in supported and sheltered housing will be exempted from the LHA cap for a year in order to allow the Government to carry out a proper strategic review of how supported housing is funded.
The date to which new tenants and renewed tenancies will be in scope of the cap has been moved from April 2016 to April 2017. The cap will still apply from April 2018, but the review will give Government an opportunity to have a new funding mechanism in place before then.
The NHF are pleased that the Government is listening to concerns and has delayed the application of the LHA cap to people in supported and sheltered housing. It also welcomed that there will be a full strategic review into how these services are funded and we will contribute fully to that review.
The continued threat that an LHA cap might be imposed in the future means substantial uncertainty remains. The best way to end the uncertainty is to remove that threat. The NHf is setting up a task and finish group to look at options for future funding and encouraging landlords to brief local MPs – has your landlord briefed your MP yet? |
