Residents left without gas for the last month are taking legal action against one of the country’s oldest social landlords to force them to reconnect the supply.
According to Inside Housing:
“Peabody is facing legal proceedings from residents of Strawberry Vale, who have been without gas since a fault with the meter on 20 January.
An estimated 240 homes and 270 residents on the estate in East Finchley, London, have been affected by the fault.
The residents are using electric cookers to heat food, while some have been without heating. Residents said charity the Red Cross has delivered hot meals to those without power.
The incident occurred due to low gas pressure on 20 January, meaning the supply was disconnected. The 27,000-home landlord then arranged for its gas supplier to inspect and repair the meter. Peabody suggested additional procedures were required before reconnection, and has appointed an independent expert to advise on the issue.”
