A new standard in working conditions has been launched in Salford in order to crack down on zero-hour contracts and implement a living wage.
The public and private sector will be encouraged to sign up to the Salford Standard to ensure working conditions are improved for staff across the city.
By achieving the full Charter Mark, employers will pledge to create new training and employment opportunities, buy goods and services locally, implement a Living Wage of £7.65 per hour, oppose zero-hour contracts and tackle the illegal practice of blacklisting.
Mayor of Salford, Ian Stewart, said: ‘The Salford Standard is a new, innovative approach to working conditions in our city.
‘I want to set a new benchmark for employees across the city. It is what they deserve.
‘This is just the beginning of a new relationship between employers, trade unions, third sector organisations and the council, which is aimed at improving the lives of working people in our city.’
Employers can apply for a Charter Mark as a whole or in three individual categories.
