The government has announced a review of how councils are using a new national space standard for housing.
Baroness Susan Williams, a junior Department for Communities and Local Government minister, last night confirmed the review. The government published a new national space standard in March 2015. Councils can apply the space standard to new homes where there is a Local Plan in place and where the viability of a development would not be compromised.
The standard, which outlines minimum criteria including size and number of bedrooms, replaced different standards used by councils.
