A 3,500-home Birmingham landlord has been placed on the regulator’s ‘watch list’ of landlords at risk of not complying with its standards.

According to Inside Housing:

Trident Housing Association is at risk of becoming non-compliant because of an unspecified governance and viability issue.

The Birmingham-based landlord currently has the highest G1 rating for governance and V1 for viability, and could be downgraded to G3 and V3 if found to be non compliant.

A note placed on the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) website today said: ‘We are currently investigating a matter which may impact on Trident’s published compliant governance and viability grades.’

A spokesperson for Trident said: ‘The HCA has raised a number of issues with us as part of the implementation of their new regulatory regime.  We remain in constructive dialogue with them on these matters.’

Trident defines itself as a ‘social investment group’ and claims to be ‘evolving into a new type of organisation incorporating housing organisations, charities and social enterprises’.

The spokesperson refused to reveal further details about the regulatory issues. Trident is not understood to have provided a major concern to the HCA in the recent past.

Trident joins south-east based Aldwyck on the watch list. The 11,000-home landlord was placed on the list in October due to an issue surrounding divisions on the board.
