Iain Duncan Smith is continuing to block the publication of reports believed to reveal the failure of the universal credit scheme.
According to Inside Housing:
The Department for Work and Pensions appealed to the upper information tribunal to prevent the publication of documents under the Freedom of Information Act yesterday.
Politics.co.uk reported that the DWP was continuing to block publication of key documents.
Transparency campaigners want to see documents thought to reveal the scale and nature of issues surrounding the planned introduction of Universal Credit.
A first tier information tribunal upheld their request earlier this year, finding there was a ‘strong public interest’ in publication.
However, in its appeal against this decision, the department said the documents contain ‘candid’ and ‘imaginative pessimism’ about the scheme which, if published, would ‘imperil that necessary candour and frankness’ with which it could be discussed, Politics.co.uk reported.
