The Right to Buy extension to housing assocation tenants is set to be delayed due to the EU referendum result, according to the Department for Communities and Local Government official leading on the scheme.
Guidelines for the voluntary RTB programme now have no fixed publication deadline for coming out, as civil servants prioritise dealing with the uncertainty brought about by a new government and the Brexit vote. Officials had hoped to publish guidelines within the next six months.
Speaking at the National Housing Federation’s Smaller Housing Associations conference, Hilary Davies, the Department for Communities and Local Government’s (DCLG) head of voluntary Right to Buy implementation, said: “The Brexit vote has made us think about timing and is leading to a delay in the process. The new government is supporting Right to Buy, but you can imagine what is at the top of their to-do list currently.”
Ms Davies indicated that, although she could not give details, further details of the government’s position on the subject would come out with the Autumn Statement on 23 November.
