Chancellor George Osborne told the BBC One’s Andrew Marr show that government ministers will this week reveal plans to provide £10 billion to support the building of new homes.
Mr Osborne said the plans will underwrite the construction of up to £10bn worth of new homes, including guaranteeing the debt of housing associations and private sector developers. An Infrastructure (Financial Assistance) Bill will be rushed out in the next few days with a view to it entering the statute books next month.
The money is in addition to a wider £40 billion economic stimulus package in July 2012 to underwrite private sector building projects.
