The Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) Order 2012  enables local authorities to end the main homelessness duty by arranging an offer of suitable accommodation in the private rented sector.

This is currently discharged in the public sector for those groups  accepted as homeless and in priority need

From the 9th November 2012 local authorities will be able to end the homelessness duty with an offer of private rented accommodation where they decide this is appropriate.
