Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles unveiled what he called a ‘new look’ local government finance settlement for 2013/14, in parliament.
Eric Pickles said councils must continue to tackle the UK’s budget deficit as they account for a quarter of all public spending. He announced that some of the worst off councils face cuts of 3%, whereas the wealthiest councils will be cut by up to 8.7%, with an average cut of 1.7% in 2013/14.
