Local authorities across the Merseyside region are to discuss plans to create a combined authority this month in an attempt to bid for more government funding.

A paper goes before Wirral MBC’s cabinet on 11 July, which outlines plans to create a combined authority for the Liverpool city region, which would allow the authorities to jointly bid for part of the £2bn Single Growth Fund.

‘The model proposed for review by council leaders and the Mayor of Liverpool for future city governance is the combined authority,’ the report states.

‘A sub-regional governance structure that enables relevant local authorities to work jointly to deliver improvements in economic development, regeneration and transport across a sub-region.’

Last month, seven local authorities in the North East agreed to establish a combined authority for the region.
