Councils have listed 100 pubs as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) to stop them being sold to developers.

By listing a pub as an ACV, it gives councils greater ability to refuse planning applications for up to six months if a pub is sold. It also means the local community is told if a pub is sold on.

Community pubs minister, Brandon Lewis, said: ‘We have known for hundreds of years just how valuable our locals are. Not just as a place to grab a pint but also to the economies and communities of those they serve and that is why we are doing everything we can to support and safeguard community pubs from closure.’

Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has welcomed the news, highlighting it makes pubs the most listed community building on the list. Chief executive, Mike Benner, said CAMRA was aiming to get 300 pubs listed as community assets.
