The justice secretary’s plan for a specialist planning chamber to speed up judicial review decisions has attracted support from the industry.
The Royal Town Planning Institute said judicial review cases could be done faster if planning cases were separated from the bulk.
Chris Grayling proposed the idea of a planning chamber in September when he launched a consultation into speeding up judicial review that ended last week.
Mr Grayling is trying to limit the number of appeals claimants can make and says some groups are bringing cases to court merely to attract publicity.
Replying to the consultation, the RTPI recommended establishing a specialist Land and Planning Chamber and urged more efficient case management.
But it opposed the government’s proposal to restrict which claimants can bring judicial review cases, saying there was ‘no evidence’ for such a plan.
