Housing professionals are increasingly expected to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of other services as tenants require increasing levels of support, a study has found. Inside Housing reported:

The Frontline Futures study, which will be launched tomorrow, found welfare reform, lack of housing supply and the increasing gap between income and housing costs are changing the support levels of social tenants.

The research, commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Wheatley Group, said that ‘in many cases’ housing staff want well-being support to help cope with ‘fear, distress and suicide threats’ from tenants under increasing pressure.

Reinforcing this point, the tenants who responded to the survey said they would like to see even more of their housing officers.
