Around 40 per cent of private rented sector tenants have said they are having to cut back on heating due to high rents, a poll has found.

Commissioned by Generation Rent and conducted by ComRes, the survey of 1,004 people living in PRS accommodation, between 25 February and 3 March, also found a third, 33 per cent, are cutting back on food for the same reason and a third also said they are living in properties with ‘unacceptable dampness’.

The current cost of rents were more than half, 52 per cent, of the respondents’ biggest problem and 35 per cent said their landlord doesn’t care about their living conditions.
