Eight in 10 London housing association tenants surveyed have a bank account, a report has found.

According to Inside Housing:

The Real London Lives research, carried out by the Univeristy of York for the G15 group of associations, surveyed 1,648 tenants.

The report found 84 per cent of tenants have a bank account. However the figure for those in receipt of full housing benefit was only 77 per cent. Under universal credit benefit for housing will be paid direct to tenants.

More than a quarter – 28 per cent- had their housing benefit reduced since April 2013 due to the bedroom tax or benefit cap. A total of 91 per cent of the tenants hit by the bedroom tax would not consider downsizing into the private rented sector in London or elsewhere.
