WDH will become the first housing association in the UK to use a public vote on Facebook to decide the name of a new residential road in Wakefield.
According to Housing News:
Users of the social media platform will be able choose their favourite from a selection of street names which have been put forward by year 7 pupils at Crofton Academy.
The most popular will then become the new name of the road which is currently being built off Hawthorn Avenue in Crofton by WDH’s in-house Homebuilder workforce.
Voting starts on Facebook between Monday 15 December, when the list of potential names will be revealed for the first time, and will run until Monday 22 December.
Martyn Gorton, director of investment at WDH, said: “The pupils at Crofton Academy have clearly spent a lot of time researching the history of Crofton and have come up with some excellent names, all of which we would be delighted to use in our new community. Opening the voting up to the public on Facebook is an exciting opportunity to engagement with our customers and leave a lasting legacy on this project and we’re particularly encouraging people from Crofton to cast their votes.”
The 32 timer-framed houses are expected to be finished in spring 2015 and will be made up of two and three bedroom houses.
